How to Show Database Storage Space
The Show database storage space tool provides insight into how you
are using HostedDatabase.com system resources for storing your business data. The amount of space
used by a particular database depends on the number of records in the database, but also on
the amount of information stored in individual fields. For instance, long Text fields will take
up more space than a Date field. Moreover, a database can grow over time if, for example, the
database is attached to a website that allows user to enter new data. It is therefore a good idea
to periodically check the size of your databases to ensure the total database space used by your
account is under the maximum for your account type: Standard accounts up to 2.5MB, Premium accounts
up to 5MB, and Enterprise accounts up to 10MB. If you require additional storage space, click on
the Subscribe to HostedDatabase.com Services link in your Control Panel to subscribe to
additional storage space.
The database storage display consists of three columns:
- Database Name - This column contains an alphabetical
list of databases associated with your account.
- # of Records - This column shows the number of
data records contained in the database.
- Storage Size - This column shows the amount
of storage space occupied by the database in megabytes (MB). You should see this
number go up and down as you use your database.
At the end of the database storage display, you'll see a grand total
of storage space used by all your databases. You may be surprised at how much data you can store in
a relatively small number of megabytes.
