How to Delete Web Databases

You may wish to delete a web database for a variety of reasons: you created a test database to try out HostedDatabase.com features, you created a temporary database for a specific project, you are consolidating two databases into one and need to delete one of the databases, etc. The Delete a database tool in the Control Panel allows you to completely erase a database from your account. There are a few issues to consider, however, when you delete a database:

  • Once you delete a database, all your data is purged from the system, so please be careful. We suggest that you consider making a back-up of your database before deleting it. Use the Download data from a database tool to copy the database to your local PC.
  • Once you delete a database, any links and/or forms on your website that reference the database will no longer work.
  • All database data storage space is reclaimed by the system once you delete a database. You can verify this by using the Show database storage space tool before and after you delete a database.
  • For Enterprise accounts: if you delete a database, all Enterprise Users associated with the database will be deleted as well. This is an automatic process so you do not have to delete the users yourself.

Clicking on the Delete a database tool in the Manage Databases section of the Control Panel, you see a pull-down list containing the names of all databases defined for your account. Select the database to delete from the list, and click the Delete button. You'll be prompted to confirm the delete process, and if you click on the DELETE this database button, the database is purged from the system.
