How to Link to a Web Database
The simplest way to integrate a web database with your website is to
use the "link" method by simply adding a special hypertext link pointing to HostedDatabase.com. The
Generate link to database tool in the Control Panel generates the HTML hypertext link for
your database, so all you need to do is copy and paste the HTML into a page on your website. Your website users
can click on the link to reach your database. Since the interface to your database only involves
simple HTML, you can use HostedDatabase.com web databases with any hosting provider, on any
web server platform. You can even add web database links to blogs, e-mails and social network
pages.
The "link" method of integrating a web database is the ONLY method
available to Standard account subscribers, although Premium and Enterprise accounts may also use this
method. Standard account subscribers will also see our logo and banner ads on
the pages rendered by HostedDatabase.com providing database functionality. If you need a more seamless
integration, please consider a Premium or Enterprise account.
Here's a few quick easy steps for linking to your HostedDatabase.com
database:
| Step 1 |
Create your database by clicking on the
Create a new database tool in the Manage Databases section of the Control Panel,
and use the Web Database Publishing Wizard which will walk you through a series of steps.
|
| Step 2 |
Now that your database is created, you
should test its functionality by using the Update and maintain an existing database tool
available in the Control Panel and try adding some records, or doing some searches depending on the
type of database you created. |
| Step 3 |
Configure your database for either Data Entry, Search, or
Both. To do this, use the Update database properties tool available in the Control Panel and
locate the property with the options: Add new data, Search, Both, and None. If you select Both,
the Generate link to database tool will generate two links, one for data entry and one for searching,
otherwise only the appropriate link is generated.
|
| Step 4 |
The last step is to locate the page on your
existing website that you would like to add the link to your web database and open the page in your favorite
HTML editor. Next, click on the
Generate link to database tool in the Control Panel, selecting the database from the pull-down
list, and copying/pasting the generated HTML to your website. If your website user clicks on the Data Entry
link, he will go to a data entry page to enter in new data. If your website user clicks on the search
link, she will go to a search criteria page. |
