Create a searchable database (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users may
create databases that users can search through according to the
criteria specified when the database was created. A searchable database may
consist of pull down lists or blank text boxes in which users may type in values to
search the database. For example, if a user was searching
through a therapist-database for a therapist in Orange County, he/she
would select "Orange County" in the pull down list for
"Counties and Regions." Another example: if a
salesperson was searching through a sales database to view a certain
customer's account information, he/she would search according to
"Name," or "Customer ID," or "Phone
number." Creating a searchable database is simple. You can
upload data from a desktop PC spreadsheet or database, or create one on the
fly. |
| 2 |
Create a data entry database (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users may create data entry databases as well as searchable databases.
Creating a data entry database requires only a few minutes. An example of a data entry
form is a customer service request form. Many online companies offer an online form for
customers to request customer service assistance. In order to create such a form through
HostedDatabase.com, the admin user must merely step through the Web Database
Publishing Wizard, and then link to the database from a website.
Admin users may combine the searchable and data entry functionality that
HostedDatabase.com provides, and create databases that allow both searches \
and data entries. |
| 3 |
Desktop data exchange: Upload data from desktop applications (S, P, E) |
|
If the
admin user already has existing data in a PC desktop application, he can
quickly upload the data into his HostedDatabase.com web database.
Admin users may upload data from Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Notepad, PDA devices, any
ASCII (plain text) file, or any XML file. |
| 4 |
Web Database Publishing Wizard (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users may easily publish a HostedDatabase.com database on-the-fly or upload data
from another application with the aid of HostedDatabase.coms Web Database
Publishing Wizard. HostedDatabase.coms unique Wizard guides
admin users to create a functional web database in under 15 minutes. HostedDatabase.coms
robust technology allows common Internet users to create web-based dynamic databases
without any database or computer programming experience. With just a few clicks of the
mouse, anyone can publish their data on the web! |
| 5 |
Create a unique database name (S, P, E)
|
|
Similar to domain names, database names
must be unique within HostedDatabase.coms Data Repository. Admin users must
produce unique names for each database they create. |
| 6 |
Private, secure administration (S, P, E)
|
|
All admin users create an account name and password to enter their Control Panel,
where they create and maintain their databases. Furthermore, admin users can secure
their
databases by making the database accessible only through use of a password. Thus,
they may be selective in choosing who may view their searchable database or add data to
their data entry database. This feature is especially useful for corporations that create
a database to hold confidential data that is expressly for specific departments or
specific employees.
Within their Control Panel, admin users may manage their databases, update their
customer profile, access their database content, and utilize the many webmaster features
available.
|
| 7 |
Update and maintain database (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users can maintain their databases within their Control Panel.
There, they may add, modify, delete, find, or download data in a database. The
admin user may click on the "Update and maintain an existing database" tool
within the Control Panel to easily update a database via a simple to use web
interface.
|
| 8 |
Update database structure (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users can alter the structure of their databases within their Control Panel
by clicking on the "Update database structure" tool
to easily add new columns, or change column names, widths, and labels.
|
| 9 |
Link database from an external website (S, P, E) |
|
Admin users can
place a link on their own websites that will automatically
link to their HostedDatabase.com database. This is useful to seamlessly
incorporate searchable databases and data entry forms onto their
website. The HTML required is automatically generated in the admin user's
Control Panel. |
| 10 |
Search or add to a data entry database as a database user (S, P, E)
|
|
Anyone may choose to search or add to any database in HostedDatabase.coms Data
Repository. Public databases are free for anyone to view, and people may
find databases typing in a keyword to search for a database. Private databases require a
password given only by the admin user of the account. |
| 11 |
Download search results
(S, P, E) |
|
If allowed by the admin user,
anyone who accesses a HostedDatabase.com database can download the results of their searches
to a desktop PC application. Through this feature, a business executive, for
example, would be able to download the results of a search for contact information on all
of the investment banking firms in Santa Monica, California. |
| 12 |
Customized look-and-feel (P, E)
|
|
Premium and Enterprise accounts may customize their data entry, search criteria and
results pages. HostedDatabase.com allows Premium and Enterprise accounts to add a logo and
eliminate nearly all HostedDatabase.com branding and banner advertisements. NOTE: removal of the "Database
Powered by eCriteria" text link at the bottom of search results pages requires special pricing. |
| 13 |
Generate HTML form template code
(P, E) |
|
Premium
and Enterprise accounts may further customize their HostedDatabase.com web forms and
smoothly integrate data entry forms and search criteria forms into their
websites by modifying the HTML code that HostedDatabase.com generates
for Premium and Enterprise accounts. Using your favorite HTML editor,
Premium and Enterprise admin user can copy/paste the generated HTML code to their web server,
and then alter the code to customize the appearance of their HostedDatabase.com
database according to their website. Using the generated HTML code and an HTML editor,
Premium and Enterprise admin users can add their own custom label search buttons,
logo, and text. |
| 14 |
XML Upload and Download
(P, E) |
|
Premium and Enterprise accounts can upload and download in Extensible Markup Language (XML) for
cutting edge communication between diverse business applications. |
| 15 |
Encrypted data entry forms
(P, E) |
|
Premium and Enterprise accounts can use HostedDatabase.com tools to create links or
HostedDatabase.com configured HTML data entry forms that send data to a
HostedDatabase.com web database in encrypted form so that sensitive user data is
transmitted securely. We provide this feature using the Secure Sockets Layer
(SSL) protocol.
|
| 16 |
E-Mail Notification
(P, E) |
|
Premium and Enterprise accounts can opt to receive e-mail notifications whenever
someone adds an entry to their web forms. This is useful for
admin users that want up-to-the-minute notifications of new records posted to
their database.
|
| 17 |
Create database emails
(P, E) |
|
Premium and Enterprise accounts can create sophisticated database emails to keep in touch
with clients, vendors, and prospects via interactive email. By
embedding search and data entry forms on HTML emails, you can offer important
data through the convenience of emails, and people can easily provide data
from a web form without going to a website.
|
| 18 |
Allow users access to their records
(E) |
|
Enterprise admin users may optionally allow users of their database access to only
their own records. This means you can create a secure data sharing environment where
users can come back and modify, delete, or add new records.
|
| 19 |
Create and assign users for a database
(E) |
|
Each Enterprise database has its own set of users which the admin user may define. You may
also allow new users to create their own user account for the database.
|
| 20 |
Require users to login to database
(E) |
|
An Enterprise database may have both authenticated and anonymous users. Authenticated
users must first login to the database in order to gain access, while anonymous users may
search or add records to the database without logging in.
|
| 21 |
Customize user login form
(E) |
|
HostedDatabase.com Enterprise accounts automatically generate HTML form code for the
database user login page. You may modify this code to match the design of your
website.
|
| 22 |
Customize user registration form
(E) |
|
HostedDatabase.com Enterprise accounts automatically generate HTML form code for the
new database user registration page. You may modify this code to match the
design of your website.
|
| 23 |
Assign database and user level access privileges
(E) |
|
Enterprise databases enjoy expanded user access privileges. Admin users may specify
global database access privileges as well as user specific privileges. For example,
general users may only add new records, but specific users may also modify, and
delete records.
|
| 24 |
Provide multiple access groups
(E) |
|
Enterprise databases are attractive to corporate departments because you may assign different
access privileges to different groups of users. For instance, supervisor users may access all
records, and may add, modify, and delete records.
|
| 25 |
Provide website access security
(E) |
|
As a by-product of HostedDatabase.com Enterprise, you may easily implement a general
purpose website access security facility, where only users you designate may gain entry
into particular areas of your site. Upon clicking on a navigation link leading to a
secure area in your site, users easily can be authenticated before being admitted.
